MIAAP Childhood Obesity Management Conference Materials, May 15, 2010

In an effort to address the practice needs of MIAAP members, the Healthy Weight Committee hosted our second annual Childhood Obesity Management Conference on May 15th in Lansing. Providers were trained on tools such as MCIR BMI module, 2010 reimbursement options in Michigan, and how local pediatric providers have developed unique interventions and partnerships to help support the providers, and prevent and treat patients. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Thank you to all of our speakers that presented at the conference, especially our keynote speaker, Dr Eneli from Nationwide Children’s in Columbus, OH, as well as the MIAAP staff who helped plan and successfully carry out the conference.

The Healthy Weight Committee will continue to identify pediatricians who are willing to become trainers in a statewide train-the-trainer initiative currently in design. The program would follow a similar format as the ABCD developmental screening and oral health training provided by the MIAAP. The MIAAP will be developing grant proposals to provide on-site peer to peer trainings with CME. Collaborative opportunities are emerging with the Michigan Department of Community Health- Healthy Kids, Healthy Michigan, MSMS, and the Michigan Association of Health Plans, to work with the MIAAP to design a training curriculum that is evidence-based and focused on practice management.
