Programs
The MIAAP creates programs and services to meet the
needs of our members and patients. Programs can fall into two
categories:
- Pediatric Foundation grant funded
programs such as our current initiatives Reach
Out and Read and Assuring Better Child Development (ABCD).
- Member service programs operated through
the MIAAP. Currently
the MIAAP is working to create new initiatives to support our
strategic priorities.
Reach
Out & Read Michigan
Reach Out and
Read is a national non-profit organization with a Michigan office
within the Pediatric Foundation of Michigan. ROR promotes early
literacy by giving new books to children and advice to parents
about the importance of reading aloud in pediatric exam rooms.
Reach Out and Read Michigan provides training and technical assistance
to pediatric offices to establish and support ROR in their practice.
If you are interested in starting an ROR program please contact
Michele Strasz at
or call the MIAAP office at 517-484-3013. You can also support
ROR Michigan with donations of books and funds. Please
see the website at www.reachoutandreadmich.org,
or view the ROR
Facebook page.
ABCD
Assuring Better Child Development is
a national initiative to promote the utilization of evidence-based
developmental screening in pediatric practices to screen and assess
every child for developmental delays or special health care needs.
The Pediatric Foundation of Michigan has received a grant from
the Michigan Department of Community Health to train and support
pediatric practices to implement developmental screening and make
referrals to community and medical services for children who have
demonstrated or are at risk of delays. To receive information about
ABCD training in Michigan, please contact Michele Strasz at
or call the MIAAP office at 517-484-3013.
