Plenary Session: Gender-Affirming Care for Pediatric Providers

Speakers: Alana Otto, MD, MPH & Mauricio Franco

Gender-diverse children and adolescents are seen by pediatric providers in a variety of clinical settings, including primary care and subspeciality settings. Pediatric providers often lack the knowledge and skills necessary to provide optimal care for these patients.

This training will provide pediatric providers from a variety of settings with an overview of the care of gender-diverse children and adolescents, including information on epidemiology, evaluations/diagnosis and management.

There is a need for pediatric providers to address the care of their LGBTQIA+ patients at the intersection of racism and oppression. To improve health outcomes and social determinants of health it is necessary to develop skills in cultural humility and intersectionality. Currently, there is limited training and capacity building in this area.
