Gurbaksh Esch, Md, FAAP                             

Dr. Gurbaksh Esch is an assistant professor and board-certified pediatrician at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine and faculty of the Pediatric Public Health Initiative in Flint. Her clinical time is spent as an inpatient and outpatient teaching pediatrician at Hurley Medical Center in Flint. Additionally, she is the associate program director for the pediatrics residency program at Hurley. Originally from metro Detroit, she received her medical degree from MSU CHM, completed her residency at Royal Oak Beaumont (now Corewell East), and recently finished the Alice Hamilton Scholar Program, as the inaugural scholar. During that program, she received her master’s in public health degree. Dr. Esch has been a board member-at-large for MIAAP since 2022, is chair of the Health Equity committee, and is a member of the Governmental Affairs and Advocacy committee. She is a strong advocate for child health, through her national and local grant-supported projects, advocacy work through MIAAP and her published opinion pieces, and her dedication to health equity in medical education and advocacy. Additionally, her advocacy efforts have involved her membership on the MIAAP Governmental Affairs and Advocacy committee, opinion pieces in two major Michigan news websites on gun violence and COVID-19 vaccination, and her involvement in planning MIAAP Resident Advocacy Day. In her free time, Dr. Esch enjoys spending time with her husband, Tony, her 2 children, and her dog, Bella. They love to go on hikes and bike rides.
