Joseph Fakhoury, md, FAAP President-Elect

Dr. Fakhoury is originally from Troy, MI but currently lives in Portage. He completed his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience. He then went on to complete his medical education at American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine. Dr. Fakhoury completed his residency training at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine (WMed), where he served as Chief Resident during his final year of training in 2015-2016. He now practices as a Pediatric Hospitalist at Bronson Children’s Hospital in Kalamazoo. In addition, he is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Dept. of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine at WMed.

Dr. Fakhoury enjoys teaching and working closely with residents to enhance their hospital medicine curriculum, earning Outstanding Teaching Awards in 2019 and 2021. His other passion lies in advocacy. This passion was strengthened in part due to his annual participation in MIAAP Legislative Advocacy Day during his residency training and his attendance at the 2021 AAP National Advocacy Conference. He has particular interest in better understanding systemic biases. In October 2019, the MIAAP Immunization Task Force was created and Dr. Fakhoury has served as Chair since its inception. For his work, he was presented with the MIAAP Special Achievement Award at the 2020 Virtual Annual Conference. Clinically, he has interests in pediatric sedation, care of complex patients, and precision medicine. In his spare time, he enjoys reading, live music, watching television, fitness and spending time with his Goldendoodle, Simba.
