How are you involved in the MIAAP?
I am a member of the MIAAP chapter and just joined the Advocacy Committee.
What's been the most rewarding element of being engaged with the chapter?
Just in this short time since joining, I have learned so much about the legislature and the importance of understanding it with regards to advocacy. I feel that, even if small, I am helping make an impact on improving children's health.
Why would you recommend joining the MIAAP?
I recommend joining the MIAAP to support and advocate for the future of our children. I also recommend joining to promote equity- every single child deserves health and wellbeing and this is the basis of MIAAP.
Why did you become a pediatrician?
I became a pediatrician for many reasons, but the biggest one was to advocate for and teach those that are vulnerable about their health. I also enjoy teaching the parents and adding to their health literacy. Now, as a mother myself, I feel that I have an even deeper understanding of the importance of providing the absolute best care that I can, and ensuring my communication with parents is open and shared decision-making is a big part of that.
